Kelly's Resume/Career Quick Tip of the Week
INCULDE PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT, STAFF PROMOTIONS, DEPARTMENT STABLISATION ON YOUR RESUME: This is a skill that isn’t on resumes as much as it should be. I would estimate that 10% or fewer management resumes highlight developing employees to be promoted or moved into stronger roles. Doing so shows both strong leadership and developmental skills. Another area is taking over a department that has a history of turnover issues. Turnover raises hiring and training costs in addition to likely lower team performance. I frequently probe on the people aspect when absent from resumes to help position a candidate. A great staff example is if you are a maintenance manager in trucking, reducing tech turnover is a major win given the difficulty of replacing them. Along with adding great bullets on KPI improvements, don’t forget to include the people aspect of management!
