Kelly's Resume/Career Quick Tip of the Week
MY BEST INTERVIEW PREP TIP: Prior to the interview try to understand what impact issues they are looking to resolve. These are the deliverable action items beyond job duties listed, the pain points management needs improved. Hopefully you have this before a first interview, if it is moving to a second interview you should have uncovered these pain points during the first conversation. Once the deliverables are understood make a t chart with their challenges on the left. For the right column write out what experience you have in that area, how you approached the problem, developed a solution and implemented it, and the results. Writing it down gets you hyper focused before the interview, plus it’s like muscle memory, writing it down and reading it more than once before an interview will help you respond in a strong, organized and detailed way that’s hard to replicate off the cuff. If you don’t know the pain points, focus on the top 3-4 impact items that type of position requires and go through the t chart process. Prepare to show you are an action taker rather than just having some skillset boxes checked.
